LYRICS & LUXURY - PART II: THE DOCUMENTARY
Lyrics and Luxury is an introspective short-film that follows the life and career of hip-hop artist,Tone Corlyone (Anthony Boateng). The documentary follows Tone throughout the Bronx, documenting his journey from performer to lyricist and hip-hop admirer. The film attempts to continue uncovering the tensions between rap artists and luxury fashion. Tone Corlyone, a young musician, details his thoughts in an interview about luxury fashion and its impact on the Black community. We are given a raw interview, in addition to a hip-hop performance at the iconic Hip-Hop Museum. The film in itself is one part of four in this entire capstone - which provides a visual storytelling esthetic in order to captivate audiences.
The documentary was filmed, produced, and edited by Corlyone and myself - which ultimately led to producing more music. The soft-rap style, but engaging lyrics from Tone, showcase a great deal of the context discussed in chapters four and five - which ultimately highlights fashion from a capitalist standpoint. The documentary also dives into wordplay wizardry and performance, based on imagery surrounding the influence from logos and luxury.
