A MALS Capstone project:
PART III: THE ALBUM
This musical album is a five-song lifestyle memoir - written, recorded, and co-produced by me. It details my own personal experiences with luxury fashion and its industry. The tracks are in short-song format and meant to be listened to in sequential order. It is a highly-stylized unwritten album (without pen) - straight from the mind and recorded in the studio. The songs were freestyled as a way to record the first ideas that came to mind in the hopes to produce raw responses that may translate to the listeners.
Below are the timestamps of the songs with its corresponding track title along with mini concept-descriptions.
Track 1: Fashion Weak (0:00-1:22)
This song is a play on words with “weak” instead of “week,” as it is often intended with respect to fashion week. The lyrics speak to the vain lifestyle and logo centered fashion beauty within a fashion capital.
Track 2: Mona Lisa (1:23-2:50)
This is an ode to the Louvre Museum in Paris, which houses the iconic painting. The Mona Lisa signifies the ultimate beauty prospect as a “fashion model” - who captures the eyes of everyone around her. The lyrics speak to courting a young woman into a relationship, where she would ultimately be taken on shopping sprees for luxury clothes.
Track 3: Rose Gold (3:00-3:44)
This song is completely introspective and details the nuanced life of a fashion creative who is caught in the middle of vanity and a mundane lifestyle. Both worlds pull him in as he tries to navigate through his purpose in life. Towards the end of the song, he hits an additional obstacle that speaks to the current climate in a fashion capital like New York City.
Track 4: Vanity Affair & Logos (3:45-5:25)
Track four revisits the same artist, as he entirely loses his grip on reality and falls victim to the vanity and logomania that surrounds him. In a strange turn of events, the lyrics perpetuate the same arguments in the white paper by chanting the very same brands that do not support his community.
Track 5: The Perfect Lie (5:26 - 9:34)
The final track tells the story of a young female named Gia (after the Angelia Jolie film) - who is caught in her own vanity - as she tries to navigate the world of fashion. Signed to a popular modeling agency, Gia ultimately takes her own life as a response to the pressures of the high fashion and luxury lifestyle.
